11.04.2010 - Did some minor modifications on the shading (a bit darker shadows around the fireplace).18.04.2010 - Shading of the mountains was improved a little and the sky was also made a bit darker.01.05.2010 - Lowered intensity of the tree shadows. Also, added few more colors to the fire and made ground around the fireplace a bit less bright.28.05.2010 - Following suggestions by =Tijgerkat, I added some stronger colors to the fire and also made highlights from the fire yellowish. Also, some logs were added to the scene.Image size

This reminds me of an old "skillingtryck" from scandinavian lore. It has a very clean quality to the art while still maintaining a feeling of mystery. I would expect this to be the illustration in a book on local Swedish faery tales.
As for shading-critique that you requested I think this level works just fine for this style of work. It's not realistic (the whole world seems almost evenly illuminated), but that's befitting the style very well in this case.
